A personal goal tracker · one user, by design

Steer by a
fixed point.

Plain daily notes, plus a few metrics you choose yourself, turned into long-term progress — without the noise of a markdown file or the bloat of a productivity suite. And a todo list where finished tasks never vanish: look back at what you did, and when.

Live at northstar.harborapps.org ↗ — single-user for now; sign-in is allowlisted.

A metric, plotted week by week. The bright one is where you're headed.

The idea

Three small things,
pointed the same way.

Notes

Daily and weekly free-text notes — the kind you'd keep in a markdown file anyway, but dated, in one place, and next to the numbers they explain.

Metrics

A handful of numbers you pick yourself — pages read, miles run, whatever your goals actually reduce to — logged in seconds and charted over months.

Lookback

A frictionless todo list where completed tasks are kept, not cleared. Months later you can still see what got done — a log of fixed stars, not a wiped slate.

A week under it

The routine is the whole product.

  1. Jot, daily

A few lines of notes. Tick todos off — they stay on the record.

  2. Log the numbers

Each metric takes one field and a second of honesty.

  3. Weekly check-in

One page: how the week went against each goal, in your own words.

  4. Watch the line extend

The dashboard turns months of small entries into a shape you can steer by.

Plainly

What this actually is

northstar is a personal tool — a single-user web app with one allowlisted login, built because markdown files don't aggregate and productivity suites overcorrect. There's no signup, no team plan, no pricing page, and none are planned. It's running at northstar.harborapps.org, it's used daily, and it's shared here as a working idea rather than a product. An iOS companion for the todo list is on the way.
